Wine of the Month - August 2023

Tue, Aug 01, 23

So I'm frequently asked which is my favorite wine. I usually try to deflect the question, because how can I choose one over so many good options? It's like asking a parent to pick their favorite child. But if you twist my arm and hold me to an answer, I'd have to say that my favorite grape is Pinot Noir. And if Pinot is my favorite grape, I'd have to say that Burgundy is my favorite place that Pinot comes from.

My problem is that good Burgundy is pricey.

This is why I was thrilled when we began importing wines from Domaine Maldant Pauvelot. Like our direct import Bordeaux, our Burgundies are a tremendous value for the money. At a regular price of $22.99, you're just not going to find a better Burgundy than Maldant's Chorey-Les-Beaune. It's light and supple, moderately tannic but rich and still full of character. Do you want something with a bit more presence? Try the Santenay. It has a bouquet of rose petals, violets, red fruits, with just a hint of licorice. Tannins are firm, but discreet, and the body is textured and well-built.

Each of the wines in Domaine Maldant Pauvelot's lineup offers everything that makes Burgundy special. The only thing that they lack is the high price.
