Did you miss out on purchasing your bottle(s) of Bourbon County Stout? It just so happens that we received 10 more cases for each of our S. Jefferson and Manchester locations! So we thought, what better way to give back to our customers AND give back to the community this holiday season? A TOY DRIVE of course! Please join us in helping spread a little holiday cheer!

All you need to do is bring a new, unwrapped toy to our Manchester location
(14201 Manchester Rd.), or our S. Jefferson location (1910 S. Jefferson), to be eligible to purchase your bottle (or two) of Bourbon County Stout, beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2015. That’s it! Your donation = a BCS purchase! There are 120 bottles available per store, so get there fast! All items will be donated to Toys for Tots!

BIO: Kris’s journey to The Macallan has spanned two continents and over a decade of experience in the Spirits industry. While studying in London, Kris landed a job at one of London’s most lauded Gastropubs where he staged in the kitchen and behind the bar. Bitten by the hospitality bug, Kris worked in several cocktail bars in London in the mid 2000’s during the London Cocktail revival. Seeking to quench his thirst for liquid knowledge, Kris took several trips to Scotland, France and Poland to visit distilleries and meet the men and women responsible in creating these precious spirits.

THROWBACK THURSDAY COCKTAILS PRESENTS: Moscow Mule (a.k.a Vodka Buck)

The Moscow Mule, also known as a “Vodka buck”, is made with a high quality vodka, a spicy ginger beer, and lime juice, garnished with a slice or wedge of lime. It is usually served in a copper mug…

Now, there are ALOT of tales behind the history of this fashionably refreshing drink and how it came to be, but here’s what I got after reading way too many articles on it…

Back in the early 1940′s, John G. Martin of G.F. Heublein Brothers, Inc.,  “Jack” Morgan President of Cock ‘n’ Bull Products (which produced ginger beer) and proprietor of the Cock ‘n’ Bull restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in LA (catering to lots of celebs) and Rudolph Kunett, president of the Pierre Smirnoff, Heublein’s vodka division, were in a bar knocking ‘em back. According to Wikipedia, John Martin had problems peddling his Russian vodka in an American market. Jack Morgan says, “Hey let’s put your vodka with my ginger beer over a crap ton of ice and squeeze in some citrus.” Thus the Moscow Mule was born.

How the mug came to be? Martin, who went around the country to sell Smirnoff Vodka and popularize the Moscow Mule, asked bartenders to pose with any copper mug they had in house and a bottle of Smirnoff. He took two photos, leaving one with the bartender to display, and the other to be put into a collection to be used as proof to the next bar that Martin visited of the popularity of the Moscow Mule.

So here’s what we got, a few liquor distributors met by fate, had a few, got inspired and combined their products. “Put that in one of them there mugs!” Done.

But seriously, all I know is that this drink is freakishly refreshing, and why do I love this copper mug so much? I need a  set, I’m just saying. (Did I mention we sell ALL of these products the Randall’s Jefferson store? YES, the mugs too!!)

Anywho, here’s how you make it…

2 oz Vodka

4-6 oz Ginger beer,

Splash of lime juice

Half a lime

Combine vodka and ginger beer in a copper mug or highball glass filled with ice. Splash lime juice, stir gently and garnish with a lime slice. Serve and ENJOY!

Definitely beats the heat, and oh boy St. Louis, is the heat on its way or what?!?!

Manchester Whisk(e)y Club April 10th Meeting

Artisinal Cocktail Sampling at Manchester on Friday

amaro_sibillaI’ll go ahead and admit it: yes, we have a lot of weird stuff on our shelves at Randall’s. It can be downright overwhelming sometimes when you just stop and think about all the products we carry that a) you’ve never even heard of and b) you have absolutely no freakin’ clue what to do with even if you decided to buy a bottle.

Well, no worries because we are here to help!

This coming Friday at the Tasting Bar in our Manchester store from 3-5pm, we’re having Shannon from Vintegrity Wines stop on by and make some fabulous cocktails from some of the less mainstream (yet growing in popularity) spirits we carry. We’ll feature Barsol Pisco from Peru, Sombra Mezcal, Amaro Sibilla, Bitter Truth’s Apricot, and more!

What’s more, not only will you get a chance to try these products singly (and you simply must try them!), Shannon will be mixing them up into cocktails that will showcase these spirits and demonstrate their drink-worthiness beyond simple shots!

Here’s a preview of one of the drinks we’ll be sampling Friday afternoon:

Sibilla Spritzer

  • 1 oz Amaro Sibilla
  • 11⁄2 oz primaterra pinot grigio
  • 2 oz lemonade

Pour the ingredients in a drinking cup with plenty of ice. Add the lemonade and garnish with rosemary, slice of orange and cherry.

In another week or so, I’ll be posting details about Randall’s new Cocktail Club, but until then, consider this Friday night a wonderful preview of what is to come!

Mezcal Madness continues!

On Thursday, March 21st at 7:00pm in our Manchester Store, we’ll be having a tasting event featuring the single village mezcals of Del Maguey.

Randall’s Wines & Spirits invites you to become acquainted with this smoky, seductive spirit. Discover for yourself the complexities of Mezcal and how the people, the climate, and the land of Oaxaca contribute to its character. We’ll be sampling 5 different single village mezcals from Del Maguey, comparing and contrasting how each village approach differs from the others. We’ll also learn about Mezcal production and how it differs- and is similar to- Tequila.

Thunderbeast Storm Tasting at Manchester on Saturday!

ThunderbeastBottles1Mad Buffalo’s Thunderbeast Storm Moonshine is 100% Missouri handmade, from “the Ground to the Glass” according to their philosophy. Sustainably grown corn from their family farms in Union, MO, is distilled in ‘extremely small batches into an ultra-premium distilled spirit.’

You’ll get your chance to sample this locally produced corn whiskey this coming Saturday afternoon at our Manchester store. We’re happy to have them out here, so stop on by, say ‘hi!’ real friendly-like and give their moonshine a try!

Journeyman Distillery’s Kissing Cousins and Barrel-Aged Bilberry Gin now at Manchester

Journeyman Distillery produces handcrafted, organic spirits distilled in the historic Featherbone Factory in Three Oaks, MI. We’re thrilled to be able to offer their line of fantastic spirits, including two extremely limited selections: Kissing Cousins Whiskey and Barrel-Aged Bilberry Gin.

Kissing Cousins is Journeyman’s Featherbone Bourbon finished in a Wyncroft Winery 1996 cabernet sauvignon barrel. This limited small batch has all the character of their bourbon with deep earthy notes from the wine barrel. Also released is the first batch of Journeyman’s Barrel Aged Bilberry Black Hearts Gin. This gin has complex flavors from the white oak barrel that are similar to aged whiskeys.

Our Manchester store only has a limited amount of either on hand, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.
