FEW Rye, from Evanston, IL was named Whiskey Advocate’s Craft Whiskey of the Year for 2013.
From Lew Bryson’s review: “Although it’s young, the whiskey is well-made and clean in character, not funky and flawed, which still counts for a lot these days. As I said in my review (an 89 score), “Straightforward rye crisps out of the glass in no-nonsense style; dry grain, sweet grass, and light but insistent anise almost wholly drown out the barrel character.” It’s backed up on the palate, where you’ll get more rye, some tarragon and dry mint spice, and then some oak in the warming finish”
FEW also produces a 3-grain bourbon. Handcrafted in small batches and aged in charred oak barrels, it is a bourbon of uncommon complexity.
Both FEW Rye and Bourbon are available at our Fairview Height’s store.
Due out next week is the 21 year old Red Breast. So I started a waiting list. Unfortunately I don’t expect it to last until St. Pats Day. There is only 6 cases coming into the state. Redbreast 21 Year Old is the finest representation of the brand’s signature sherry style. It is made from a mash of malted and unmalted barley, triple distilled in copper pot stills and matured in a combination of American Bourbon barrels and first fill Spanish Oloroso sherry casks.
Expresiones de Corazon Barrel-Aged Tequila is a collaboration between David Grapshi, Tequila National Sales Manager with Gemini Spirits & Wine, Harlan Wheatley of Buffalo Trace, Miguel Cedeño Cruz, and the tequila master distiller Mario Echanove.
From Corazon’s website:
“In 2010, Corazon acquired the best barrels from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection ‚Äì including 21 barrels from each category of George T. Stagg, Sazerac Rye 18, Old Rip Van Winkle and Buffalo Trace. Using these award-winning barrels from Buffalo Trace provided its own flavor and unique characteristics to the Tequila. They were then stored in the first row at Casa San Matias aging facility in Acatic, Los Altos Jalisco, insuring the ideal level of air flow to aid in the aging process.”
The Old Rip Van Winkle Anejo spent 23 months in cask and is bottled at 40% ABV.
Available in very limited quantities at Fairview Heights.
Cantillon will be making a return to the St. Louis market very soon. We will be getting very little as expected. We are not really sure what we will be getting either, so here is how we are going to work it. There is a waiting list online . There will be a 1 bottle limit. You can ask for as many bottles as you want but you will only get 1. The list will be ordered as usual, VIP customers at the top of the list ordered by purchase history. Then everyone else by sign up date. I will seriously doubt any non-VIP customers will get any. The first person on the list, will get his/her choice of bottles, the second gets his/her choice and so on until everything is sold out.
